David Brin is a scientist, technology speaker, and author. His 1989 ecological thriller, Earth, foreshadowed global warming, cyberwarfare and the world wide web. A 1998 movie by Kevin Costner was based on The Postman. His fifteen novels, including New York Times Bestsellers, have been translated into more than twenty languages, and won Hugo and Nebula awards. David also appears frequently on shows such as Nov, The ARCHITECHS, The Universe and Life After People. He is much in demand as a speaker on topics dealing with trends and the future. Brin’s non-fiction book –The Transparent Society: Will Technology Make Us Choose Between Freedom and Privacy? — won the Freedom of Speech Award of the American Library Association. His new novel from Tor Books is Existence.
Sherwin Sly is Deputy Legal Director and Kahle/Austin Promise Fellow at Public Knowledge where he focuses on emerging copyright issues and international effects on IP and technology policy. Before joining PK, he served as Staff Counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center, working on consumer and communications issues.
Lui Simpson joined the Association of American Publishers (AAP) in August 2009 as Executive Director for International Copyright Enforcement and Trade Policy. Lui manages the association’s enforcement program in several Asian markets and the association’s engagement on copyright, technology, and international trade policy issues with both U.S. and foreign governments. Prior to joining AAP, Lui was Senior Counsel for Intellectual Property Policy at the Entertainment Software Association, where she developed the industry’s Statement of Principles on ISP Responsibility, as well as industry positions concerning a variety of copyright and trade-related issues. Lui holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree in International and Comparative Law.
